AileyCamp Application

What is AileyCamp?

First established in Kansas City, MO in 1989 by Alvin Ailey himself-
AileyCamp is a summer day camp where students are introduced to and come to respect the discipline of dance as a physical activity which requires athletic ability comparable to skills demanded by any sport. Campers also increase their leadership skills and enjoy a variety of athletic and social activities. They learn that dance is challenging, fun, and helps develop strong minds and bodies.

Campers participate in classes in four dance styles everyday: Modern, Jazz, Tap, and Ballet. Campers also participate in creative communications classes, learning to express themselves verbally and in writing. Campers have a class in either visual art or percussion depending on camp site.

Lastly, Campers participate in Personal Development classes everyday- holistic education provided by state-licensed counselors regarding topics relevant to growth appropriate to the campers’ age range. These classes include subjects such as: developing positive self-esteem; nutrition and wellness; hygeine; conflict resolution; violence prevention; drug and substance abuse prevention; and issues of human sexuality for preteens.

AileyCamp is a lifechanging program that helps campers build strength, learn resilience, and develop the skills to be not only a better dancer, but a healthier and more knowledgable individual. This is evident in the achievements of many AileyCamp Alumni, the numerous awards the AileyCamp program has received, and the expansion of several AileyCamp locations across the nation.
