Position Summary

In collaboration with KCFAA leadership (i.e., board members and senior leadership), staff and key volunteers, the Development Director (DD) is responsible for the creation, implementation and execution of a comprehensive fundraising strategy to achieve annual and long-term revenue goals.

· This role includes maintaining grants, corporate, foundation, individual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships and government relationships.

· The Development Director will identify and cultivate NEW individual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants and special events to support both the short and long-term revenue objectives of KCFAA.

· The Development Director will take ownership of all grant writing responsibilities. including developing compelling and accurate grant proposals, grant information compliance and delivery readiness 72 hours prior to deadline for CEO review. Any requests for outsourced Grant Writing will go through a request and approval process with the Chief Executive Officer.

· The Development Director will have a shared responsibility (Logistics) in the successful planning and coordination of all fundraising events and activities for the organization, including KCFAA’s annual gala, Race Place and Diversity Awards Dinner, donor cultivation events, membership events, as well as any newly identified fundraising events as needed.

· The Development Director will own all facets of the donor database (Salesforce Including ensuring accurate and up to date donor records, gift processing and acknowledgement procedures. In addition, the Development Director will monitor all fundraising activities, track progress towards goals and generate weekly, monthly and any Ad Hoc reporting for the CEO as well as the Board of Directors when requested.

· The Development Director will stay informed of Non-Profit fund-raising trends, opportunities for donor engagements as well as the generation of new revenue

stream opportunities further ensuring KCFAA stays well positioned in leveraging newly identified platforms and processes that position the organization for year over year growth.

· The Development Director is required to work some evenings and weekends consistent with scheduled events, performances, and other activities as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership

• Provides leadership and support for the Development Manager and any future development function additions. Including training, mentorship, Biannual and Yearly review of job performance.

• Align with Chief Executive Officer on developing current and future fund-raising strategies and articulate final strategies and objectives (goals) to CEO, BOD and other departments.

• Build and maintain successful relationships with Board of Directors, including the attendance of BOD meetings as required. Act as the primary liaison to the Board Development and Fundraising & Membership Committees.

• Develop recommended annual Contributed Revenue budget. Monitor and manage budget. Evaluate and make recommendations as needed for contributed income sources and resources needed to fulfill objectives.

• Build and maintain relationships with major donors, business, government, and corporate community and foundations.

General Fundraising

• Plan, organize and implement an integrated approach to development with a focus

on bringing new financial resources to the organization, including identifying target

markets, cultivation, and solicitation strategies.

• Work with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to set goals, objectives, timelines,

budgets, and operational and strategic plans related to each development

component.

• Identify and apply for grant funding from government, corporate, and foundation

sources on timely basis to meet short- and long-term financial goals.

• Manage and execute all annual, sponsorship, membership, capital, and endowment

programs with assistance, as needed, from key board members.

• Recommend fundraising policies and procedures to the CEO and Board.

• Prepare and manage annual giving and contributed reports for Development

Department and publication.

Direct Fundraising

• In collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Manager, develop and implement strategies designed to engage existing and potential corporate partners that support direct solicitation through proposals, grant writing, personal solicitation, direct mail, and special events.

• In collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Manager, develop and implement an ongoing communications program to engage existing donors, which recognizes past and current commitments and fosters support for future efforts.

• Design and plan stewardship opportunities for donors.

• Secure funding for programmatic projects across the organization.

• Provide organizational accountability to funders as required through reporting requirements, annual reports, and other mechanisms to ensure compliance.

• Manage gift-tracking, timely acknowledgments, and regular reporting on the use and

impact of funds raised.

Qualifications and Skills

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, public

relations, communications, or related field. Master’s degree or fundraising

certification preferred.

• Experience: Five to ten years’ experience in non-profit fund development and event

management with progressive successful record of performance.

• Experience in grant writing to government, foundations, and corporations with a

written record of performance preferred.

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

· Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work independently and

as part of a diverse team.

• Proven ability to communicate the mission and vision of an organization. Demonstrated passion for dance and dance education preferred.

• Working knowledge of a fundraising database; proficiency with advanced level of proficiency in SalesForce preferred.

• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Experience with One Cause and

Mobile Cause are a plus.
