Protest + Hope = Healing is a special performance commemorating the protests of 2020 that focused attention on the Black Lives Matter movement, systemic racism in America, and the national divide that was heightened by the insurrection at our nation’s capital.
The performance includes dance, music, and spoken word, within a performance of experiences reflected through banners, painting, and visual art intimate exchanges about why art matters.
The event is an opportunity for artists to respond to this once in a lifetime juxtaposition surrounding race and what it means to be an American. It is the hope that, through art, we can gain a greater understanding about each other, how we build community, and work towards a better Kansas City.
The artistic experience will include opportunities for participants and audience members to engage in intimate arts experiences as well as performances. Art and the art making process are important parts of reflecting, understanding, and documenting our world. The dancing, visual art, poetry, and music will engage and challenge the participants and audience and reflect our shared experiences.
